Malay Ghose Hajra, PhD, PE, BC. GE, ENV SP, F. ASCE

Dr. Malay Ghose Hajra offers more than 25 years of combined professional engineering, consulting, and academic experience in the fields of geotechnical, foundation, and coastal engineering. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Kansas State University and has extensive working knowledge about complex projects funded by the Department of Transportation (DOT), US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), CPRA, and the private construction industry.
His knowledge and expertise lie in the fields of (i) Subsurface investigation and geotechnical design, (ii) highways and bridge foundations, (iii) Subsurface exploration and design for Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction systems, (iv) Levee slope stability, settlement, and seepage, (v) Retaining structures and floodwalls, (vi) Geotechnical Instrumentation, (vii) Expansive soils and foundation distress investigations, (viii) construction vibration, and (ix) data analytics/innovative technology in civil engineering.
Dr. Ghose Hajra is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in multiple states including Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Colorado, Minnesota, and District of Columbia. He is also recognized as a Board-Certified Geotechnical Engineer (BC.GE).
Dr. Ghose Hajra also offers management and synergistic leadership as well as mentoring abilities. As a faculty member and chair of the Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Orleans, Dr. Ghose Hajra successfully developed and received approval for a new bachelor’s degree (B.S. in Urban Construction Mgmt) and a new graduate Certificate in Coastal Engg from Louisiana Board of Regents. Dr. Ghose Hajra has authored several peer reviewed papers and scholarly articles in internationally recognized journals and conference proceedings. He has offered multiple webinars and short courses on topics ranging from slope stability, geotechnical instrumentation, seepage and erosion, as well as drone technology in engineering practices.
Dr. Ghose Hajra has received several awards from multiple organizations including American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He was named in the New Orleans CityBusiness’ . Dr. Ghose Hajra is engaged in professional organizations such as American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Institute for Sustainable Infrastructures (ISI), and National Academy of Forensic Engineers (NAFE). He has volunteered time to serve as President of ASCE – Louisiana section, President of ASCE – New Orleans branch, chair of ASCE’s Committee on Student Members (CSM), and chair of the academic committee at Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI).
